Wastegate boost pressure regulation
Exhaust gas turbochargers from Bosch Mahle Turbo Systems deliver a high engine torque even at low engine speeds and with a small exhaust gas mass flow (low-end torque). Boost pressure is regulated to prevent the TC from overcharging the engine at higher engine speeds.
Exhaust gas turbochargers from Bosch Mahle Turbo Systems also provide the option of "overboost." This refers to a temporary excessive increase in the boost pressure, e.g., when accelerating
(⇒ kick down).
At high engine speeds, the wastegate diverts part of the exhaust flow to the turbine. This reduces the exhaust flow through the turbine and decreases the exhaust back pressure. At low engine speeds, the wastegate closes and the entire exhaust flow drives the turbine and thus the compressor.
The product portfolio includes wastegate boost pressure regulation for all diesel and gasoline engines up to a power output of 560 kW. Wastegate boost pressure regulation is characterized by durability as well as impressive functionality.
Bosch Mahle Turbo Systems therefore uses wastegates in commercial vehicle engines because of the stringent requirements for service life. Wastegate boost pressure regulation is used for gasoline engines because of the extreme thermal loads involved.
